This is only for pediatric surgery fellows at US or Canadian training programs.

Mastery Learning Essentials (MLE-IPEG)

What does this course teach?

The Mastery Learning Essentials Hands-On course (MLE) provides a solid and essential basis for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) skills to pediatric surgeons and urologists at all levels by teaching fundamental tools to move forward efficiently towards safe and quality MIS in pediatrics and neonates. The course is a starting point prior to proceeding with advanced training. Participants will be introduced to MIS by internationally recognized expert faculty utilizing inanimate models and specially designed exercises.

Who should attend:

Pediatric surgeons and urologists of all levels who want to gain fundamental MIS skills and experience.

Prerequisites:

None

Pre-course work:

A willingness to learn the basics of pediatric minimally invasive surgery.

Learning objectives:

This course will introduce and provide the tools to maintain and perfect endosurgical skills for coordination and precision.

It will provide a solid basis of the art of suturing in small working areas including tricks and fundamentals for some advanced maneuvers.

Clinical application will be incorporated for pediatric and neonatal procedures in every exercise performed to move towards efficient, safe, and quality MIS. This course will provide the tools to maintain and perfect endosurgical skills for coordination, precision and as well as give a solid basis about the art of suturing in small working areas.

The MLE exercises and inanimate models have been specially designed and adapted to this program.

Mastery Learning Advanced Course- Thorax and TEG (IPEG)

What does this course teach?

The Mastery Learning Advanced Course is designed for practicing pediatric surgeons seeking exposure to and training in advanced minimally invasive skills needed to perform thoracoscopic lobectomy and thoracoscopic esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula repair. Participants will learn the specific skills and techniques of expert minimally invasive pediatric surgeons through didactics and mentored practice using high fidelity models.

Who should attend:

Practicing pediatric surgeons with basic knowledge, skill, and training in minimally invasive surgery who desire additional hands-on training and exposure to the advanced techniques for repair of esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula and lung resection using high fidelity models.

Prerequisites:

Basic knowledge of minimally invasive surgical techniques and tenants.

Pre-course work:

Pre-course videos and lectures will be made available on the StayCurrentMD app in the IPEG space. A pre-course needs assessment with reporting of baseline skills will be conducted.

Learning objectives:

Participants will receive hands-on teaching and mentorship from internationally recognized master minimally invasive surgeons to identify strengths, areas for improvement, and plan for continued development. Participants will gain knowledge, skill, confidence, and build a network of trusted international colleagues for continued consultation.

Pediatric Surgery Fellows Minimally Invasive Surgery Course (US/Canada Program)

The US/Canadian pediatric surgery fellows’ course is held in conjunction with IPEG’s meeting.

This is only for pediatric surgery fellows at US or Canadian training programs.

What does this course teach?

The Pediatric Surgery Fellows Minimally Invasive Surgical Course is tailored to provide senior pediatric surgery fellows with advanced training in laparoscopic procedures. The course dives deep into the specific techniques and approaches used by expert minimally invasive pediatric surgeons, merging didactic learning with practical, mentored exercises on high fidelity models.

Who should attend:

Senior pediatric surgery fellows who are currently receiving laparoscopic training and are keen to elevate their skills to an advanced level should enroll. This intensive course provides a unique opportunity to hone the advanced techniques essential for pediatric laparoscopic surgery under the guidance of renowned experts.

Prerequisites:

Trainees should have foundational knowledge in laparoscopic surgical procedures and principles. Familiarity with the basic tenants of minimally invasive surgical techniques is essential.

Pre-course work:

All registered participants will have access to pre-course materials, including videos and lectures, on the designated platform. Prior to the course, a needs assessment will be carried out to gauge baseline skills and tailor the course experience accordingly.

Learning objectives:

Upon completion of the course:
1. Trainees will undergo meticulous hands-on instruction and mentorship from faculty minimally invasive pediatric surgeons, fostering an understanding of their own strengths and areas in need of further development.
2. Trainees will achieve a heightened level of skill, knowledge, and confidence in advanced laparoscopic procedures for pediatric patients.
